Recovering a deleted Groupwise user

Recovering a deleted Groupwise user

Recovering a deleted Groupwise user

I deleted a Groupwise 5.5. user and her data (i.e. tasks, calendar, etc). I tried to recover with the FID edit procedure, but my predecessor had set automatic purge of deleted files to ON and gave a file delete wait time of 5 minutes. So when I went to perform part of the procedure of the user's UserFID.db it was gone.
The Novell web site has a TID (10007473)Recovery Technique: Deleted Groupwise Account. I was wondering if anyone out there has tried this technique and if so do they have any words of wisdom, or caution.
Also, is there some other technique that YOU use, and could reveal to me.
Thanks All
Jerry Heineman

RE: Recovering a deleted Groupwise user

I have tried to recover a groupwise user according to TID 10007473 with no luck...Do you happen to know the FID of the person that was deleted....if so you can probably recreate the userXXX.db file. Then shutdown the POA and MTA and do a rebuild on the PO. Also, you may want to do a structural check of the user db...and recreate it as well.....I think this will work for you...If I can be of any more assistance please let me know.....

RE: Recovering a deleted Groupwise user

Have you tried to retieve the USERXXX.DB file from a backup tape. I usually do this when the user deletes messages and empties them from the trash and then decides a week later they need one of the messages.
Then you could recreate the account with a new FID and use the TID Technique to match the DB to it. You may be out of luck if you don't know the original FID.

RE: Recovering a deleted Groupwise user

To find the FID look at the latest *.ckl file on the server if you run GWcheck on your Post Offices you will have this file and it will show you what FID matches what users. I have it set up so that this file is mailed to me after each check is done so I always have an upto date list of what FID matches what user.

This proved extremely useful when I deleted a whole Post Office of users by mistake!
