How can I increase the printable area..?

How can I increase the printable area..?

How can I increase the printable area..?

(OP)
Hi,

I need a Landscape report to be printed on a letter size paper (11” x 8.5”), with 1/8 inches as margin on all 4 sides. One line of this tightly fitted report must accommodate 129 characters (@ 12 cpi). With this it should occupy the 11” width.

I am using HP LaserJet 4250 and 9050 printers.

My problem is

1. I am not able to get a margin less than 1/4 inches. Could anyone of you please tell me a way I can achieve this?

2. Can somebody also tell me the difference between 'PRINTABLE AREA' and 'LOGICAL PAGE’?

NOTE: The PCL 5 Printer Language Technical Reference Manual – Part I states the following as the Logical Page and Printable Area Boundaries for Landscape oriented Letter Sized paper:

Distance between the side edge of the physical page and logical page = 60 and
Distance between the side edge of physical page and printable area    = 50 (Dimensions @ 300DPI)

Thanks,
RNTH

RE: How can I increase the printable area..?

1. You can't reduce the margins to 1/8" all around. You can cheat it a little bit with the strategic placement of sheet offset commands, but that would leave you with 1/5" margins at best. Can you not just increase the pitch slightly, or is this a preprinted form.

2. The printable area is just what it implies, the area on the page where you can physically mark the sheet. The logical page is the area on the sheet that is addressable by the PCL coordinate system. At the top and bottom of the sheet there is space that is addressable by PCL, but is within the printable space.
