I can find very little info for ver 3. I did find a site the refered to motherboard as being made by siemens but still can't find any more info.

RE: k7t 266 pro2 ms-6380 ver 3 is it OEM?

Hola, try here:

http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K7T266_Pro2&class=mb

as you can see it is an MSI mainboard...

awhile back Siemens made heavy use of MSI mainboards and installed their own BIOS's... it very well maybe a MSI OEM board for Siemens, but the information you will find in the above link will hold true...

BadBigBen: Thanks for site, but I have been here many times before. I do see that it is an MSI mainboard as well as a "VER 2.0", not a "VER 3". I assume this would this make a dfference in BIOS?

The mainboard BIOS provides AMI "Plug & Play" Flash BIOS. This is from site above. When I boot up I get "AWARDS 6.00 BIOS". Can I assume I have the wrong BIOS. These are the BIOS I beleive MSI update installed.

Is MSI update looking at my board or BIOS chip for the correct BIOS to install or is installing updates to existing firmware even though it might be the wrong BIOS firmware?.

RE: k7t 266 pro2 ms-6380 ver 3 is it OEM?

No, do not presume that you have the wrong BIOS...

Siemens, used an AMI BIOS for the boards they used, I had an old 6309 with an AMI BIOS, which I then flashed to the new AWARD BIOS from MSI, this worked... albeit it was the same version... it is to be assumed that a V3 differs from a V2 that I would not flash the BIOS from one of them to the other...

I am not sure how exactly the MSI Update checks for the BIOS version, except maybe by the Version Number and make of the BIOS...

the latest BIOS version found on the SIEMENS Website is Ver. 3 dating back to 23.07.2002!!!

it was build into the SCALEO 600 PC line...

Hope this helps...

Thanks, found it! now I am at which path to take.
Trust MSI site and MSI update 3?,
Install above drivers. If I do can I go back if bios don't work out or do I have to but a new board or BIOS chip?

RE: k7t 266 pro2 ms-6380 ver 3 is it OEM?

Hola, if worst comes to worst... if you flash it with the wrong BIOS the board can become useless, DL the manuall as it will state if it has an emergency plan for this to happen, ie. there where some boards with two BIOS chips or a way to recover from a bad flash...

suggest you also take a look on the MSI site, as this will also work for OEM boards...

good luck...

PS: I would only flash if it is really really necessary, like  CPU recognition or HDD size problems...

I suggest you take the "human" out the equation here and install MSI's latest Live Update software.
I have never seen this software choose the wrong bios in it's automated update process.

I have seen a similar thread of yours on this same topic,  still I don't recall you stating why you want to update the bios.

I only ask because you may be taking a high risk path attempting this flash with absolutely no gain.

Suggestion by EA games tech support. I was having problem with games. It has been awhile but I remember items in DxDiag where not showing on my system. On case being "Unknown CPU"  and to better educate myself of the land of BIOS.

Any system I've had has alway been buggy on way or another. Spy being the biggest prooblem.

I am sure one day I will have to reinstall OS. But for time being I'll leave it alone. Last time I ran MSI Updat System would just loop at windows startup. Thanks all for all the help.
