BCM 1000 Rebooting by itself.

BCM 1000 Rebooting by itself.

BCM 1000 Rebooting by itself.

(OP)
I have a BCM 1000 that is having a mind of it's own the last couple of days. I am new to the BCM, so please bear with me. A couple of days ago all the IP phones connected to the BCM dropped their connection to the BCM. The Passport we have it connected to was going crazy with traffic. After sniffing the network, we found that all the IP phones went crazy trying to find the BCM. After a reboot everything seemed normal. Yesterday the same ting happened, I could not connect to it thru the web interface. After a couple of minutes, I could get to the web interface but IP phones did not connect back up. All digital phones stayed connected all the times the IP phones went down. That afternoon, same thing happened again. So I swapped the 2 NIC's in the BCM with each other and after the boot up, everything was performing much better. Logon was faster, phones connected quickly, even the calls sound a little better. This morning, the same thing happened again. The BCM is running 3.0 on it. Any help or ideas would be of great help. Thanks in advance.

RE: BCM 1000 Rebooting by itself.

When this happens, are the green lights flashing?

What is the model Number  ie:NT7B10AA????

RE: BCM 1000 Rebooting by itself.

How many IP phones?
Has it only just started to happen?
What patches have been applied to the BCM?
Is the BCM on the Public Network?
How many MSPEC cards in the BCM?
What Codec are you using for the IP Phones?
Have you a VLan in place for your Voice and Data?

The green lights go dead on in the status panel. I am not sure the model number, I can get it when I go in on Monday. Where would I find the model number? We have around 25 IP phones on the BCM. I don't think it has been patches since the upgrade to 3.0 from 2.5. It is not on the public network. It has 2 MSPEC cards. We are using G.711 for the codec and we do not have VLAN's in place because of the physical layout of the network.

RE: BCM 1000 Rebooting by itself.

I know there are patches regarding the unstim on 3.0. Does the voicemail work when you lose the IP phones?

RE: BCM 1000 Rebooting by itself.

Model number is on a white label on the back and will something like this  ie:NT7B10AA????

Not 100% sure about the voicemail, but I think it does not work. Oh forgot one thing also. When trying to make a call between buildings using VOIP trunks to the other BCM's, display on digtial phone says something to the effect that their are no free VOIP trunks avaiable. I'll post the model number Monday morning.

RE: BCM 1000 Rebooting by itself.

There was a product bulliten for faulty system boards for certain BCM 1000 units that originally shipped with software version 2.5FP1.  This is related to faulty voltage regulator capacitors on the system board.  This causes the NT side of the system to lock up, causing voicemail, IP phones, etc to stop functioning until the system is rebooted.  After a reboot, things will appear normal for a period of time before it will fail again.

Have your vendor contact Nortel, open an ITAS case, and they will send a replacement system board if your system is one of the lucky affected candidates.

RE: BCM 1000 Rebooting by itself.

They don't send a board, they send a complete system. I have gotten 3 so far.  PAA-2004-0238-GLOBAL

RE: BCM 1000 Rebooting by itself.

They sent me just a system board last time (couple months back).  Guess it depends on who fills the order at the depot.

The model number of the BCM is NT7B10AABT. I am going to call Nortel today and see about opening a case today.

I swapped out the motherboard and chassis with another BCM1000 and everything seems to be working well. This morning I was lucky if the unit stayed up for 5 mins. Just wanted to thank everyone for the help, hopefully I'll get a new motherboard from Nortel.
