Hybrid Environment ??

Hybrid Environment ??

Hybrid Environment ??

(OP)
What exactly does this mean -

"Hybrid Environment leverages existing investments in Meridian, Norstar and Communication Server 1000 systems, offering a future-proof migration strategy."

Can my Meridian MCS somehow share call handling with a BCS??

Thanks, Rick

RE: Hybrid Environment ??

what context is the quote from?

usually hybrid nowadays means TDM and IP switching
Another thing is Wired and wireless on the same phone

RE: Hybrid Environment ??

call load cannot be shared between 2 switches (unless there is another load balancing switch)
the hybrid means that the BCM does TDM and IP switching in the same box

if you wanted to know - yes you can 'network' your meridian with the BCM

RE: Hybrid Environment ??

(OP)
Thanks. Maybe I'm being thick here, but how does this "leverages existing investments in Meridian"?

And, what do you mean by 'network' meridian w/BCM.

Thanks, Rick

RE: Hybrid Environment ??

It sales talk for "I hope he doesn't ask me what that means"

It sounds goog on paper

RE: Hybrid Environment ??

dont understand the purpose of ur questions
are you trying learn about the system/ nortel, or planning to buy a nortel system?

RE: Hybrid Environment ??

(OP)
I currently administer a Meridian MCS, and am trying to see if the BCM will integrate into the current to begin a migration to IP voice.

Rick

RE: Hybrid Environment ??

the bcm cannot help the meridian1 (i dont know what mcs is) to become voip enabled

if it is for the same location you may have to upgrade hardware and/software to get VoIP capabilities on the meridian1 itself
you LAN may need an upgrade as well

RE: Hybrid Environment ??

It looks like the question was about an MICS Norstar, or an Nortel PBX with an MCS 5100. If you let us know exactly what hardware you are asking about this forum may be able to help you a little better.

RE: Hybrid Environment ??

Yes, it is a Norstar Modular ICS. Sorry, I was working from my defective memory! So, the original question remains - do the MICS and the BCM somehow work together to "leverage existing investment" in the MICS??

Thanks much,
Rick

RE: Hybrid Environment ??

A lot depends on whether you buy a 400 a 200 or a 50.
If you have enough sets to justify a 400 you will have more options.

You can use a fiber expansion in the BCM to utilize trunk and station modules from the MICS.

You could use an IP gateway to trunk between the two systems, but you wouldn't be able to share a mail.

The phones will work if they aren't too old.
In this forum you will be able to find advice on how to get your MICS to brush your teeth by you smiling at it but it all depends on how big the original sytem is whether it is worth saving or integrating.
