MITEL IP sets. TFTP download

MITEL IP sets. TFTP download

(OP)
Hi there,
I need to know if it's possible to specify an "external" ,if you want, TFTP server for the MITEL IP telephones to download firmware and software.

I have a problem whereby I need to somehow localise the software download (TFTP server) for IP telephones as I have remote sites not using Teleworker. I am using a 3300 MX controller on ver 5.2.xx

In theory I suppose all I need to "host" are the files the phone requires?
Anyway if anyone can assist thanks,

Eugene
South Africa

RE: MITEL IP sets. TFTP download

Why can't they just get their boot files from the 3300?  The sets have to be able to talk to the controller to place calls, so getting the boot file from there shouldn't be a problem either.
You can set up a local tftp server if you want.  Just copy the files from the /sysro/tftp folder to the local tftp. Then in the local lan's DHCP options set 128 to be the ip of the local tftp server, or assign it statically in the set.

Thanks for the reply MitelTech. The issue is that the controller is situated in one country and the phones are remote sites in different countries. They are not using the Teleworker solution, however even if they did the sets would still have to connect to the controller to download their software, and don't have controller situated local to the respective countries. They have a wan link (across satelite which is very slow) that connects the sites. All they want to achieve is to minimize the bandwidth usage when the phones go out and come back up again for what ever reason. Remember down here in Africa bandwidth is a commodity

Regards,
Eugene

PS: You sound very familiar with the system. Do you work for MITEL?

RE: MITEL IP sets. TFTP download

Hi Eugene,

I have not done this yet but you can post the tftp files onto an external server if you wish.  I suspect the way to do it, is to FTP onto the mitel RTC Shell like so

Assuming your using the default IP addresses ftp://192.168.1.2 in a browser window I.E internet explorer
username system, password password

once you have gained access you should beable to copy the relevant files and folders.

Like I said I aint tried it.

Hope this helps

Ian

Thanks all, I knew that if I could find the files the phone needed I could get this to work. Thanks MITELtech for that info.

It works.

Eugene
