hayes modem registers

hayes modem registers

hi guys, I've been charged with the task of detecting when a phone call is being recieved and when the telephone handset is being picked up when a telephone is connected to a modem as an interface to a PC.

So far i know when a call is coming in and can capture this event via the com port, but am struggling with the handset pick up.  Is there anyway i can get the modem to return a line status from a register without having to get it to dial to check the line status.

The modem is only being used as a cheap interface for the phone and will not be used to connect to the internet.

does anyone know of any registers that can check this?
