Zone Alarm is stopping internet access even after uninstall

Zone Alarm was installed by a friend on her computer as part of her broadband subscription software (NTL in the UK). This was causing her some annoyance, as it kept asking her about which web sites she was visiting.

Her brother took the software off the PC, by using the uninstall package. However, after about 15 mins of surfing, the web browser (IE6 on WINXP SP2)comes up saying that zone alarm is not functioning as it should, and has disabled web browsing.

I have looked through the registry, and cleaned out all references to Zone Alarm, and it still does it, but now after aprox. 30 mins.

I have also tried re-installing zone alarm, and it will not re-install, as it says there are parts of it still running.

Any suggestions on how to remove what is left of zone alarm, re-enable full web access, or re-install zone alarm would be appeciated.

Cheers,

Andy

The following is taken from ZoneLabs user forums for situations where ZoneAlarm has been uninstalled but there is no web access:

Possible issues:
1. 1) Your browser may still have proxy settings (ZA does NOT use these but some bundled software might)
2. Incomplete uninstallation of ZA - perform Manual Uninstall
