Trying to open zip files on a friends computer they will not open w/winzip, it appears that they are being saved as wordpad docs though the file extensions seem correct. And I am trying to get back to the open with defaults. Not sure how to reset them.

Open up a window in windows explorer, then click on tools > Folder Options > File Type. This way you can check which program is set as the default; but you can reset this if it has been changed by another program.

1. select the file (must be highlighted with blue background)
2. hold shift then right-click on that file
3. select "Open with..."
4. select WinZip (must be installed of course)
5. mark the "Always use this program..." checkbox.

hope this helps. peace! [peace]

try torturedminds remedy first.
Those files may be Spyware with hidden double extensions (ex. WinZipfile.zip.doc or even .zip.vbs or .zip.exe) so be careful...they "could" be malware (don't know where your friend got them or what they are).
First - Scan with an AV Software with up to Date defs before trying to Open and use Adaware and SpyBot S&D
