I have little to now knowledge yet have been asked to convert many (of varying sizes) Access 97 databases to Access 2k.

The powers that be refused to reasearch an alternative or pay for updated software on the new PC's that have just been deployed.

I shall look for Microsofts instructions (although I did a few months ago and at the time realized that I will have difficulty understanding them) but I am looking for any advice on how to make the transition go more smoothly.

Thanks in advance for your time!

Drew

How are ya Drew888 . . .

No matter how you convert, one of the biggest issues that always comes up is [blue]References![/blue] . . .(In any module [blue]Tools - References)[/blue].

[blue]Usually not all references carry over[/blue]. So this is one of the most important things to check. Before you convert write down your references for each db. Then convert & check for any missing. If so . . . [blue]instantiate that reference for the version your converting to![/blue]

Usually this is all thats required (at least for me . . . so far).

Thanks Ace,

This is not going to be easy from a guy that has never used Access to do upgrades but that is the job I have been given.

i.e. I don't yet know what a reference is (beyond the obvious).

Anyway, I'm running around helping out with Lotus Notes upgrades and when done Access will be next.

So, within the next couple of week or 2 I'll be searching for all the db's and copying them to play around with them. I'll then be testing them and once convinced they all work I'll upgrade their Access.exe then replace their db's with the converted ones (backing up older copies of course).

I'll be back when I get started.

In any VBE Editor . . . from the menubar . . .[blue]Tools[/blue] - [blue]References[/blue].

In the listing, the ones that are checked are what your looking to get transferred. These are the ones you write down and check against the conversion . . .

[blue]Good Luck![/blue] ;-) [blue]. . .[/blue]
