im running a X-Server on my WinXP machine
im trying to start an xterm by telnetting to a UNIX station from it
i type
xterm -display 111.111.111.111:0.0 &

but i dont get a window on my screen
i tried to run the process in the foreground and yup, ot locks;
what could be the reason ?
the machine im connecting to is on my uni campus network, and im connecting from outside the networkl; is it possible that the our administrator has banned connections of term to outside x-servers ?
any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
thanks guys.

Sedai,

Are you using the correct IP address of your PC when you execute the command? I'm guessing that you put 111.111.111.111 as an example, but I just wanted to verify.

you have to run xhost only on the display you want to allow; ie. the XP box... ;)

I suggest not to use displayname:0.0 but displayname:0

in csh:
setenv DISPLAY displayname:0
xterm

-> run a network sniffer in another terminal session eg snoop on a Solaris Box, maybe you can get a hint from the protocols there
