where does the quarkXpress "Document" preferences reside?,

some files don't print on a epsonStylus printer but if the contents of that file is pasted into a file which prints.

then that file also prints which means i guess its something to do with the document preferences?!?

Please help

Quark's preference file resides in the Quark folder, but each document can have its own preference settings. If you change prefs when a document is open Quark changes the prefs just for that document. IF you change prefs in Quark with no documents open then the changes you make will be applied to all subsequent NEW Quark documents.

What you have done is use an old trick often utilised when a documents preferences become corrupt. Quark used to refuse to save a document (I forget thw warning dialogue contents) and the only ay to 'revive' the file was to do exactly waht you did.

If Quark's global prefrences become corrupt (usually when you suffer a Quark crash) it is best to trash the the Quark prefs and relaunch the programme. A new set of default prefs will be created and you will have to re-edit such to get rid of things such as all picture boxes having white as the default fill. Apple Y will take you to the main Quark prefs. Apple alt Y will take you to more and Apple alt shift Y to even more. Or just access them via the Edit menu (I think). I don't have Quark on this mac otherwise I would confirm this... This is something I do regularly but can't remember a damned thing when asked to think about it!

Please remember if the preference are changed in a file tell your printer what was changed. It helps the process. Let freedom ring!
