xppro - ie8 alternate search providers...

I'm running sp2 with ie8. Tried to change the default ie8 search provider by following the ie8 instructions. The related page shows up with alternate options but when I click any of the 'add to ie' selections nothing happens.

Thoughts?

Is the check box at the bottom of IE/ Manage Add-ons/ Search Providers, the box that says, "Prevent programs from suggesting changes to my default search provider", having any effect if it is ticked?
