XP will load past the users choice screen 1

I have a computer running XP home that was badly infected with 3 of the last worms. I was able to remove the worms with stinger but now the machine will not boot past the users choice screen. If I go into safe mode and try to start will all the different options available all I get is the user choice screen I click a users it says loading your personal settings and sits there forever. No hard drive activity. Any suggestions?

Hi,
There may be another virus on the machine that Stinger did not pick up on(stinger only picks up about 39 viruses although that is updated whenever a big virus comes out)Stinger was not meant for general scanner as it does not scan real time.)
Can you log on as any user in safe mode?
There may be no other choice but a rebuild,....

No I can't get into the system with safe mode. It just hangs on loading your personal settings. I tried the other 2 users she had setup on the machine same response. I left it all night it never went past loading your personal settings. I tried last good conf that didn't work either. I tell people make sure they have a good virus program running. I might have to rebuild the system. at least I can slave the drive and get her files from it before a reload.

You could try a repair reinstall -

- but you're probably best rebuilding.

I found out if you hold down the ctrl+alt+del keys for about 5 seconds the computer will load. I don't know why it will it just does. I want to pass that alone for a future reference.
