Hello

My IBM laptop (P4 2G) has suddenly developed a long delay at the XP welcome screen on boot up (the scrolling dots left to right now count about 20 sweeps, whereas initially there was only 3 or 4). I have since compared this to my son's similar laptop and his has remained at the 3 or 4 mark. I have not installed any major programs recently.
My question is, is there anyway to remove this splash screen to see what's going on behind it (I remember in W95 & W98 that you could hit escape or edit a file to remove the startup splash screen). Any help appreciated

Thanks in advance .........

Two thoughts:

1. Bootvis.exe will give you a read as to which parts of the boot process are requiring the most time. It will also let you optomize the startup process to some extent. Select under the 'Trace' menu choice: "Next Boot + Driver Delays", and after the reboot, 'Trace' and "Optomize System.' MS keeps this one hidden at present:
2. Start, Run, MSCONFIG
Look under the Boot.ini tab. Check the box for NOGUIBOOT, and under Advanced Options, DEBUG. Do not do this in conjunction with Bootvis.

BOOTVIS worked for me. I had a 70 sec delay after I got the WELCOME screen to my desktop appearing. Bootvis identified that service mrxsmb was the problem & it related to network drive attachment. I had mapped drives to another ( switched off) processor . When these were removed from Windows Explorer , Boot was back to normal.
