XP unable to get DNS automatically on 1 machine

I have a home network with Windows 2000 server running active directory.
I used to use it for DNS as well and had all other machines (they are all XP Professional) in the house point to that for DNS resolution.
I turned it off since my ISP can handle DNS and I don't want to have to leave the server on at all times.

Now most everything works fine, except one machine. It cannot automatically detect the DNS server and therefore no internet. I can see the server and other PC's so I know the connection is fine. (We are 100% wireless).

When I ping other working machines, I can see the connection specific DNS suffix (lkwnny.adelphia.net). On the machine that is working and I run ipconfig that is blank.

Where can I look? I tried restarting the DNS client on the machine but that didn't help.

ALl machines also have WIndows firewall turned on. I also checked each item under network properties for TCP/IP and everything seemed the same between working and non working machines.

One more thing, the "page cannot be displayed" message comes back very quickly (like it isn't even trying because it cannot find a DNS service to use) and I cannot ping any domain name.

Sorry, just kind of writing down notes for other things I am looking at.

One difference is in the network connections. On the non working machine there is a 1394 connection that status is connected. The working machine does not have that.

Also when I had DNS turned on for the server and pointed all machines to use it, they all worked flawlessly.

When I run nslookup google.com from the cmd linke I get server: unknown and address: 127.0.0.1

Now I got the automatically detected DNS entries from my router and plugged those into the bad machine, now it works OK.

However I would rather have the DNS be detected automatically. Since that seems to be the problem is there something that can be stopping this?

127.0.0.1 is the default address of your network card. It means you are not getting anything from dns, which you know. Re-check the automatically detect dns settings, and when you can't get on the net, go to dos and type in ipconfig /all and see what you get.
