Setup.
Running XP Pro without SP1 (all other updates installed), on a P4 2.53 Mhz w/512Mb. Maya 2 (Radeon 9700 Pro graphic accelerator).

First when playing a racing game. (The problems exist in all games)
Norton antivirus 2003 caused a stall (graphics freezes) of about 1 sec twice per lap. With and without auto-protect.
Trying Nav 2002 without any change.

Second all antivirus software removed. System rebooted. (The problems exist in all games)
The racing game stalls for a fraction every two second, then exiting the game – moves into Display settings – Advanced Monitor – change the refresh rate from 75 to 70 and runs the game again without any problems.
Moves back into refresh rate and change it back to 75, run the game again without problems.

I have tried to update display driver, MB-bios, run DXdiag without finding any solution.

Any ideas ?

I know it's not much of a solution, however most game makers suggest you don't run any virus software and also as little else as possible while playing.

...just bought UT 2003...I like it!
...turn off all back ground Apps while playing any game, antivirus software is trouble, disable it or else uninstall it.Defrag the drive you installed the game on right after you install it and don't forget to get rid of all the junk on that drive before you defrag!,check your page filing...XP allocates a crap load for nothing(for most folks anyway)...manually allocate the page filing size for more speed or turn it off if you have lots of Video ram...like 128DDR should do it!,...set XP for performance before you play the game and turn it back on after unless you like the Windows 2000 look, stick with the performance look...very formal!
