Once in a while, when all documents are closed and you ask the computer to shutdown, it will give this message:

In the bar is "Moving....."

"Windows is currently working with a file.

Either wait for Windows to finish, or close it before you quit Windows."

However, there are not any files open, including in the task list. To shutdown you have to hold the off button down to force it to shutdown.

There are 7 computers (all using XP) tied to a Novell Server. Most of the files the office works with are on a drive attached to the server.

Cannot find anything in Microsoft Knowledge Base. Any suggestions to stop this annoying problem?

Thanks for the help and have a wonderful day. Janet Lyn

I recommend to open the task manager and check what is running.

hope this helps

Something to do with roaming profiles and copying the profile back to the server? Not sure but sounds like it. Do you have the latest patch for the Novell client? The client has had big problems with XP.
Also, make sure file caching is off on the server. SET CLIENT FILE CACHING ENABLED = OFF is the command to run on the server. You also have to have that line in the autoexec.ncf.

Lovalles, in my earlier thread instead of saying Task List, I should have said Task Manager.

Jon, thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately, the server is the one baby I don't mess with. But, I can get my computer guy in here now and let him know what I want fixed without him having to do a bunch of research like I did and stiffing me for a huge bill. I was hoping it was something I could fix. Thanks for leading me in the right direction.

Bcastner, thank you. Most of the advice seemed to be for people who upgraded. We received our computers from Dell already installed with Windows XP and Microsoft Office. However, I did find one item in the last link which specifically talked about "unknown" files being opened that weren't and fixing the registry. It even gave me a link that would "automatically" update my registry, I think. Anyway, I saved it to my favorites, but am going to try and download a Novell patch I was missing and then if it happens again, I will start playing with my registry. Scary stuff for a no-pro like me. Thanks again and have a wonderful, pink star, day.
