I read in a SYBEX book on XP that if you install XP w/ NTFS then Win98, ME, etc w/ FAT or FAT32 partitions will never be able to view shared items from the NTFS machine-

This doesn't ring true to me-
Any experience that this is true?
If so, does it affect sharing printers, too?

TIA

-Allen

MS-DOS 6.22 and earlier cannot access FAT32/NTFS disks.
Win95/95A cannot access FAT32/NTFS disks.
Win98/98SE/ME cannot access NTFS disks.
WinNT4 and earlier cannot access FAT32 disks.

All the above applies to the local machine, does not apply to a network and one machine accessing another machine. For example, a Win98 FAT32 workstation can access files on a server formatted NTFS.

A dual-booting Win98/WinXP can access all files if all partitions are FAT16/FAT32 but if WinXP is NTFS, then Win98 cannot access the WinXP partition.
