Hi.
Trying to upgrade to Windows XP SP2. During the Installing Windows Installing Devices, the pc just stops. It sticks at 33 minutes. The little green dots flash away at the bottom of the screen. Any ideas on how to fix this without formatting and starting again?
Thanks
Scott

What are you upgrading from, and what is your hardware platform?

Are you able to stop the installation and get back into whatever version of Windows you're running? Or are you saying you are just sitting at the installing Windows screen still?

You should always run "winnt32.exe /checkupgradeonly" from the command line (cdrom:\i386\) before upgrading Windows. This will check for compatibility.

From XP home to XP Pro. No options to stop the install.

From what I see on the support web site, there may be a driver or something that needs to be disabled prior to upgrading. However, you'd need to search for problems with your specific hardware platform.

This article is kind of general, but may be of help:

One of the suggestions is to remove any unnecessary devices (USB printers, serial devices, etc.) that are not needed for setup.

Is there any "Bios" virus scanning running that you can disable in the Bios?

The logs mentioned in the article linked to by "chipk" ought to give you a good clue as to where the problem is occurring.

Hi.
Tried it all. Gave up in the end, and started a clean install. Everything went on fine.
Thanks again
