Good morning -

Question for you folks:

I've been playing around with XP Remote Desktops" and find it to be a usefull tool. TightVNC works well but privacy issues may come into play being that you can pretty much take over a user's session and they would not know. XP's tool logs the person out so they would definetely be alerted.

I was also stumped about how to do a remote reboot but after reading in your forum I learned that while "remoted in", you can simply go to Start\Windows Security\Shutdown.

The only question I have is that I've recently installed the Win 2003 Admin Pak on my desktop. I use it to administer my 2000 network. Included in this new 2003 admin tool pak is a snap in called "Remote Desktops". This is the new reincarnation of TSC from the Win 2000 admin tool pak. From this "MMC" tool, you can remotely administer XP desktops just as you can with the other "Remote Desktops" tool that you find in Start\All Programs\Accessories\Communication\Remote Desktop Connection. The only difference is that you have less connection options with the MMC tool.

Anyone know of any other differences? Why aren't they the same tool?

I've used VNC for a number of years and have never been able to take over a users machine without them knowing. If it's possible, the workaround would be to have the user issue a new password for each connection.

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!
