Do you know if XP keeps track of all the files that are loaded to the HD for a particular installation? In other words, if I wanted to find out which files were loaded when I install a program like SAS, is there something/somewhere I can find this out?

Michael

Do you mean "Does Win XP keep a track of files installed during 3rd party installations?"

If so, the answer is yes, and the answer to the tacit question is that yes - you can roll-back to the pre-install version using the System Restore facility of Win XP. (This would have garnered a faster response on the Win XP forum btw).

If I've misinterpreted your question, then please can you provide some more detail? Jonathan Challis

The system restore function wouldn't be able to tell you what files were say installed on an installation of say Word. It wouldn't say 200 files were installed/replaced and these are as follows etc..

Some software packages have a generic text file sometimes called install.log which might list the files installed, overwritten, replaced etc. This is usually found in the directory the program is installed into. It depends if the application has been written to include such a feature etc.
