Ok, I have WinXP Pro client on my LAN. Everything works fine for this client as far as local resources go, shares, internet, network printing, browsing the LAN\WAN just fine.

Just fine until he establishes a VPN connection with Cisco VPN Client v4.0.2 to Germany. Once the VPN connection is active all local networking and internet is dead.

I am not sure on what to do, or how to configure the VPN client or XP to maintain LAN connectivity during a VPN connection. Or is this normal? I have searched around a bit, but cannot find anything that pertains to my problem.

<-Insert VPN newbie comment here->

btw, this is the first time I have had the pleasure of doing anything with VPN's, so the answer is probably common VPN knowledge, but like I said, I have done VPN yet.

<-End VPN newbie comment->

Any insight on this would be helpful,

thx

What you need is to configure split tunnel on the head end device (in Germany). Split tunneling encrypts only the necessary traffic all other traffic (ie: Internet, local LAN, etc) is not encrypted so you can access your Local LAN. There is nothing you can do at your site, it has to be configured on Germany.

Thanks themut,

Sounds like a good plan.

Considering timezones, it will probably be another day or so before I get the change done. Took about 18 hours for a password reset. :)

Thanks again,
