I recently built a new pc, and installed xp pro on a new hard drive. now, when I wanna start up my old OS on the old drive, it will load until the windows logo is shown, and then a quick blue screen is shown and then pc restarts suddenly.
now, I dont really need the old os to work, but I need to get my old stuff from my account in "Documents and Settings" but I cant access it as it denies me to.
what should I do to get the old OS to work, or at least be able to copy the old stuff (lots of files on desktop and a whole lot of links in favorites) to a new hdd?
the old pc was built on an intel cpu with an ati vga, but the new one is built on amd with geforce card, if that matters.
I need some serious help over here.

HOW TO: Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP (Q308421)

To start the old system try booting to Safe Mode, chances are you have drivers missing on the old drive (XP install) that are needed on your new system.

To get further information about any error look in your Event viewer.

Look in the System or Application folder. You can get to the Event Viewer via right click My Computer icon and select Manage.

Any errors logged in the Event Viewer can be expanded by double clicking on the error line.

Take any event error I.D. number and search for it on these sites.

Also check any "Information" line that mentions "savedump" and you should find reference to "recovered from a bug check". This is the Stop Error that caused your problem.

You can also turn off "automatically restart after an error" so it will just halt at the fault and display the full Stop Error and blue screen.

Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties .
On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery .
Click to clear the Automatically restart check box under System failure , and then click OK . The error message on a blue screen should remain on the screen so you can record the error information.
