XP Pro Installation Timing

I have experienced the problem where at the end of installation (Saving Settings...) where the install indicates it has 8 minutes left, instead taking 8 minutes it takes a total of 8+7+6+5+4+3+2+1 = 36mins. In other words it takes 8 mins to go 1min, then 7mins to go 1min, then 6min to 1 min and so on.....

Any thoughts on why this occurs?

A normal install should complete in 36 minutes. Is there anything complicated about your system or what you are trying to do?

Assuming the install eventually completed, how is the machine running on XP?
