I don't know what is causing this event but it is concerning me. Every time I backup something to a floppy (small files intil CD time), and then want to shut down, the floppy hangs. Cntl+Alt+del does not show it so I can end the session. Can someone tell me what is doing this and if it can be fixed?

Greatly appreciate any help.

It may be the floppy drive has just died and needs replacing.

Does the device manager show the floppy drive as working properly ?
If not it has troubleshooting and driver options.

Try going into the Device Manager and remove the floppy drive controller there. Reboot and let the system detect/reinstall the controller. You can repeat this for the floppy drive too.

Have a look in the Event Viewer and see if there are any errors mentioned.

Have you tried a different brand of floppy?

Thanks linney, I will try this as soon as I am done with what I'm doing. I'll try to remember to let you know if it works.

I did this but it still soes the same. I will check on a new floppy drive. Thanks again for you input.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?).

Is there any Virus Scanner trying to check the floppy at Shutdown?

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.
