First a little background...

I had win98se and that OS ran my old DVD-ROM perfectly. I then upgraded to XP Pro and the DVD-ROM quit working. It seems there were no drivers for that DVD-ROM for XP Pro. So I decided to by a new Artec Diablo DVD-ROM that says it is compatible with XP

The new OS doesn't recognize the new DVD-ROM at all though. I have gone through control panel and add/remove hardware, but that doesn't seem to work. Everything is plugged in correctly and the DVD-ROM is set to slave. No drivers came with the DVD-ROM since it's supposed to be plug and pray...I mean play. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings Jon...

A few more specs might be needed. However, I am aware of one incident involving XP...you can look for it on the Microsoft Knowledge Base. It involves Adaptec (although many different burning softwares do this) rewriting registry keys in the registry pertaining to CD-Rom/DVD-Rom attributes. Do a search in the Microsoft Knowledge Base for "XP CD-Rom/DVD-Rom not responding" and you should find some help. The solution I found was to delete the Upper and Lower Values of the CD/DVD registry keys, which should reset the values. However, I advice you research the solution first, as I may have forgotten a step or two.
