I clean upgraded to winXP SP1 from win98SE.
My problem now is the floppy drive cannot read my floppy disks. I tried reading them in a win98SE machine and no problem was encountered.

I tried formatting one on winXP SP1 yet it still cannot read/recognize the floppy or the data in it. It will always say "...disk not formatted.." It can read floppy disks before under win98SE.

Is it a bug in winXP SP1? My work around is the flash disk...but what about my other data in my floppy disks?

When you formatted the disk were you sucessful (no errors) and could you see the disk afterwards? It might be a bad drive.

You may have a faulty floppy drive. Try cleaning it with a floppy drive cleaner.

It was working perfectly under win98SE. When I upgraded to winXPpro SP1...it now SUDDENLY is faulty? or dirty?

Anyway, I'll try cleaning and/or replacing the drive with a new one.

Thanks.

By the way, here are the error messages upon inserting a floppy disk into the drive:
1. The disk in drive A is not formatted.
I attempted to format the diskette....
2. Windows was unable to complete the format.
3. The disk in drive A cannot be formatted.

**the diskette is not write protected.

This seems to be a common problem with XP. Try setting your motherboard Cmoss to 2.8 Mb for the floppy drive. This has worked previously on 400+ machines at our Uni. Same symptoms, drive works normally on W98, WME or Linux but not on XP. Why this seems to fix it I do not pretend to know. Regards
