I want to be able to have a measure of an XP machine with no load and then another with applications running. How do I do this so I can have a report of this? Thanks.

You could open up Performance Monitor (Start > Run > perfmon) or which ever way you want to open it up. Click on Performance Logs and Alerts in the left pane and then right click Counter Logs. You will then select New Log Settings... and type a name for the report you want to generate. You can then add the counters you want to show up in your report on the general tab (processor, disk usage, memory, etc.) and configure how often you want this data sampled. On the Log Files tab you can configure what type of file your report is to be (text file, binary, etc.). Then you can schedule when you want sample to be taken on the Schedule tab.
