Hey all,

I just installed XP on 2 pc's (1 pc, 1 laptop) and have them networked to a pc with 98SE. It seems file transfers are painfully slow. Any reason why? Anything I should be looking for/changing?

Thanks!

well if you are on a 10mbps network then don't expect nothing fancy....so make sure your hardware is all 100mbps...NIC's, hub (or whatever you're using). There are little tweak here and there....something you might wanna try just to make things easier is downloading "tweak xp"...this is a handy utility for configuring your computer's performance.

WOA ! ! Although tweaks are fun and dandy when they do well ...having a perfectly working NiC crash is a mess.

Be sure the equipment you are using is 100mb compatible.

If your not sure, reference the model numbers of the nics you are currently using.

Though you could see up to 200mb's in full duplex if all works accordingly you will not see this if the computer/nic/hub you are using is a dinosaur =)

10mb in full duplex will give you u p t o 700 MEGS in about 15 minutes.

100mb/200mb[in full duplex] will speed along at about 100-200megs a minute!

Again depending on your equipment!

- Cheers!
