I've got several XP machines running on a network that login to a domain (server is Win 2000 using active directory). All machines use mapped drives to a file server on the network. There is one machine that keeps dropping its connection to the mapped drives all the while continuing to have general internet access. I've checked all of the NIC settings on the client (updated drivers, TCP/IP, etc..) and everything looks good. I've confirmed perssions on the file server. I've checked the login account permissions on the domain controller. I've reset the login account and have deleted and recreated the login account. The result is that I temporarily restore the connections but soon after drop them again. I go to a spare machine, login with the account in questions and have no issues.

Any ideas?

Is the client PC's clock in sync with the server? A diffrence of more than a couple of mins can upset the kerberos security system.

More information...

Once I restore network connections (I could only accomplish this by remvoing the PC from the domain and then adding it back), mapped drives stay connected as long as I do not log out. I can lock the PC and unlock with no issues but when I logout or restart the PC, the shares do not reconnect.

Are there logon scripts involved? Are there any errors in the Event Viewer?
