Currently using a netware 5.1 environment (36 netware 5.1 servers) with about 1800 clients that are a mix of win98, win95, win2k, and XP. All servers have latest service packs installed. The problem we are experiencing is that the xp machines are frequently losing mapped drives. I think most of them are at the latest client but not sure if anyone has experienced this particular problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are you in an IPX/IP environment or just IP? How are the workstations and setvers setup protocol-wise? What SP are the servers at?

Have you go file caching switched on or off?

Service pack 6a is on all servers and it's an ipx/ip mixed environment. IPX and Tcp/Ip are loaded on all workstations and when installing clients we do custom and make sure that ipx/tcp are both loaded. Not sure about file caching, where can I check that setting on the server?

I'll get the mickey taken out of me for telling you (I always suggest this), at the server console type:

SET ENABLE CLIENT FILE CACHING

Set it to OFF if it is ON

Check the Power Management setting on the PC NIC's. Turn it off it is on.

File caching was turned off. Power save wasn't on the machines that I checked.

There is some reg setting on XP, sorry don't have the link for it, for TCP Keep Alive. Google that and see if that helps.

Tried everything but strange things keep happening. Seems to be affecting 98 boxes also. I think I may have a Directory service problem. Will let you guys know what we find, thanks for the input!
