Some way, in the efforts to stop a virus, one of my files disappeared. Now I need to replace Windows\System32\spxyqtar.dll. I tried getting it off the Windows installation disk, with no luck.[sad] Can someone send it to me? Much obliged..

What makes you think that you need it? Since google doesn't seem to know what that file is, it's very likely to be some malware, not a windows file.

The computer keeps asking for it on startup. I don't know what program needs it. Is there a way to know that?

Do a Registry search for that file... there is a service loading (or other Autostart entry) that tries to access that file, once you find that culprit in the REGISTRY, delete it there...

as it probably is part of that MalWare that you got rid off...

Cleaning the registry gave me three results, two could be deleted, one could not, it said it has no value, opening it gave me only 5 zeros.
upon reboot, I still have a problem, and the error message comes from Rundll.
On another note, one which I thought would go away with these, the Windows Security System keeps telling me to turn on Auto Updates. They show to be closed on the link from the task bar next to the clock, but if you go through control room, it shows to be turned on.
AND.... when I click on an internet link, I am forced to use the right button and tell whether to open with a new page, or new tab. Using IE 7 and have already re-installed it and set all to default.
Maybe I need a good ballpeen hammer.

Well, Superantispyware.com found one virus, unvoo, but after running for a short while, the pc reboots. I was able to pause the scan after the one find, remove the virus and start again, but it still reboots partway through.
I have removed one of the downloaded microsoft scan programs, and now autoupdates is working, but I don't have a virus scan except for the superantispyware, which is worrying me.
Boy what a mess. A young man in our house has been banned from the internet until further notice. He will access the net from the public library for a while.[pc]

Was it Vundo that was found? If so, try this utility
You could also try system restore, but you'll need to to have some idea when these nasties got installed & restore back to sometime before that.

It was vundoo, but that problem is now resolved. I still have the problem of the system trying to start spxyqtar.dll and I can't find out what problem is trying to start it. I can not find any reference in a registry search.

Download HighJackThis, from Trendmicro.com run it from the desktop and do a log, paste this log into this thread for our perusal, and we will help you find the nasties...

DO NOT DO ANYTHING with HJT until you confirm it here... as you could render your PC unusable...

OK! here it is and sure enough, there is a line with the command in it. I put stars above and below it.
Now what?
