Can a laptop with XP Home Edition be networked on an XP Pro networkk

Yes.

The Home Edition only supports the Simple File Sharing model, but this effects only its role as a host for shares, not as a share client.

So what you're saying is,
From the XP Pro Pc, the admin can add, change, , backup, delete files and folders and the user can do the same to folders on the XP Pro PC - right ?

Right.

There are special folders such as 'Program Files' and user profiles that require special permissions, that the default setting for Simple File Sharing on regular files and folders is for the Guest authenticated user to have full permissions.
