I have just installed a rather old Maxtor 90871U2 HDD as Slave in my PC (OS = XP). XP found, and seemed to install the HDD, and, yes, there it is under Device Manager with a good health report. But it does not show up in Win Explorer or My Computer. Why might this be and what can I do about it, please?
Steve

Can you find it in disk management and then format it?

right click on my computer, left click on manage and wait a bit and computer management window will show up.
Then click on disk management. Your slave drive should be there as disk 1. Disk 0 will be your main hard drive so dont touch that one.
You should be able to right click on disk 1 and then click on format.
