XP direct cable connection

I have XP pro workstation and a laptop running Win98. I've set up a direct cable connection using parallel and allowed access for users including guest, the XP machine is host and laptop is guest, the guest account is enabled. When I run DCC from the laptop, a connection is established, the XP machine reports an unathenticated user, the laptop reports username and password validated, the laptop then prompts for a computer name for XP machine, which is entered, the laptop then reports can't find computer, so I get no further and have to stop the connection.

I have followed the XP online help to set up the connection and allow permissions and have now reached the end of troubleshooting, anyone any ideas???
