I've been having issues with XP Professional creating users on its own. Recently (not at the same time) 2 users logged on when arriving at work to notice that their settings were gone and that everything was back to Windows default (Background, screensaver, desktop icons, and even all of the users files). The first time it happened for each user, I just did a system restore to the previous day and everything seemed ok. Unfortunately a couple of weeks go by and the same thing happens again with both users. They were very busy so I just did a system restore once again. This morning it has happened again. Today I went to Windows Explorer and went to C:\Documents and Settings\ and saw that there were multiple users with the same name. For example, the original username was JHelms, but there was also a JHelms.000, and JHelms.001. I logged off and logged on as Administrator and then deleted the users with an extension. I then shutdown the PC and turned it back on. I logged on as the user, and it wouldn't go back to the users settings and their files were not there. I went to windows explorer and went back to C:\Documents and Settings\ and there was a new username once again called JHelms.JHELMSXP. I had no idea on what else I could do, so I did a system restore to yesterday and everything seems fine...for now. If you have any idea what is wrong please help me. Thanks

To me it sounds like the original profile is corrupt. I would log in as Admin and move users profile to root and have user log back in to create a new one then copy files back and reconfigure.

There are no stupid questions, just a lot of inquisitive idiots :)
