XP Compaq and Burners

Okay,

I cant get an answer from compaq and/or microsoft and/or easy cd creator.

MY DVD/CDRW barely works, for burning. I have all the updates and everything. I know this isnt alot of information but the software that comes with the drive that comes with XP home thats preinstalled is Easy CD Creator Basic 5 and everytime I try to run it it says that it cant initialize the engine and if I try to use EZCD or even nero it says it cant find the drives.

What can I do to burn all my stuff?

have you tried to make a music CD using Windows Media Player? I'm not suggesting that is the final solution I just wonder if cd burning works at all? ----

I know through burning software I am unable. I will try the media player. Though I find if I use DirectCD Drag and drop, I can burn copies that work about 20% of the time. --"Hello Microsoft? and get the CD Burning update. ----
