Am rebuilding a Windows 2003 server that has about 20 XP clients.
Am manually configuring the old users accounts (single server network and do not have a proper AD backup to recover from).
Is ther a way to prevent the clients from creating a new local profile when they are added back to the domain.
Have only done one rebuild before without backups and found the clients created new profile locally. Had to then manually copy the old profile to the new one.

When you rebuild the server and the domain and add the the users to the domain the user gets a new sid so he does not have rights on the profile anymore on the local machine.

No you dont need to copy it.

Login as the user and let the machine make a new profile, log out and login as admin, make the user owner of the first profile and give the user full control and make him local admin (after this is done remove the admin rights) change the name of the first (old) profile to the name of the profile it made when you loged in as the user (first delete that profile)

Restart and login to the profile the user was using in the old domain.

Thanks for your prompt reply Lars.
Was hoping for an easier solution, but suspected there wouldn't be one. Your solution is a more elegant one the the copy method I used last time.
Will give it a go.
