XP and RDP in console mode

I am trying to connect to an XP machine in console mode. The machine should be logged on all the time because its running modules that have to have the machine logged in.

When I try to connect to the machine its always at the initial login screen.

The command I am using is

mstsc /v:<ipaddress> /console

can anyone suggest something
