I am running XP prof on a LAN with a Win2k server and AD. When I first login I have to login as local user and cannot login to AD. After I do this once, I can login as user on AD. What is wrong??

It could be the the way your telling XP there's a domain. (If im installing new PCs I use an install script that will set up the domain name ready for first login.)

When your changing the workgroup to domain, did you remember to also add the PC name to the AD? Network ID will do this for you, but like you say, you have to be a local user first.

On the other hand, if your saying that everyday your having to login as a local user first before you can logon to the domain, then that sounds like a DNS issue. If this is the case, look in the server's DNS, if you see an domain with a fullstop then delete that entry.

Also check XP's TCP settings, set the DNS to that of the servers IP address rather than auto assigned.
