XP & W2K login to W2K server to slow

I have 4 W2k Servers on my network. Running DHCP & DNS. With the xp and w2k workstations it takes roughly 5 mins to log into the domain. The 98 workstations login fine. I've tried adding the users to the local admin group, tried making a .man profile even deleted there profiles and went through the default profile to make it small and it still takes way to much time. I tried putting a my documents shoprtcut in there also but no luck. They have static IP addresses. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

The problem is most likely DNS related...

1 - Has this always been a problem - or since changing the workstations (ie. sp3?)
2 - Is DNS set up correctly ? Workstations should only be set to the server, server should only be set to local loopback.
3 - What do you get if you run NSLOOKUP from the server and workstations.
4 - Any errors on dcdiag?
5 - Any other protocols installed on the workstations apart from TCP/IP?
6 - Any errors showing up on the server network card?
7 - Once you log in is the speed OK?

As Ash said make sure dns is correctly set up. You could also try adding your servers to your lmhosts file and preloading them.

Rename lmhosts.sam to lmhosts
then enter your server data like this

192.168.90.44 yourserv #PRE

If your are running a domain then add a line like this
192.168.90.44 yourserv #PRE #DOM:yourdomain
