XP-2000 MSI deployment

Using Server 2000 Group Policy to deploy msi packages, how would I control the distribution of the patches? For example, Windows XP machines get the XP security patches and Windows 2000 get the 2000 security patches?

what about creating an OU for the machine types, placing the machines into the OU using AD Users and Computers and enforcing the policy on the OU? Never tried it though...
