XML tools software validators parsers etc 1

Does anyone have a suggestion on what would be the best software for someone new to XML to use. I have heard that XML Spy is good but expensive. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm at a very early stage of learning XML but I have started using an Explorer add-in available rom Microsoft.


The tool the book I am working from suggests to use for initial validation in a web browser in downloadable from

Select "Internet Explorer Tools for Validating XML and Viewing XSLT Output".

For editing there is Peter;s XML Editor
