Can Xeon cpu's run in Windows? For some reason I have been trying to install an OS on this workstation I built that has dual Xeon processors. However, I'm showing hardware conflicts whenever I want to install an OS, such as Windows2000. When I install Windows2000, it says to check "terminators" or something. I can't install any OS, which is because my D: drive wont allow me to install any OS. Is this all due to Xeon chips? My friend told me that Xeon chips run in Linux and aren't made for Windows. I think that's bullshit, anyhow. What should I do? Should I just get regular cpus for dual processing rather than Xeon?

PLease help

A couple questions:

1) Is your motherboard Xeon compatible? Yes, they make motherboards especially for Xeons.

2) Does the motherboard have more than 2 CPU slots? If it does, you need terminator cards for the extra slots.

Your friend is bs'ing you. Intel and Microsoft are buddy-buddy, so you probably will never see an Intel product that doesn't support Windows. Here, we run a HP Netserver with 4 P3-Xeon 550's on Windows NT Server, no problems.

Hope this helps,
Todd

I agree with bobcat. If the you have a dual board and only one CPU you will need a termination chip to fil lthe other slot. I cant think of the name of it right now. I am tired. I will get it and post it up Thursday. But yes Xeons work great under Windows NT/2000. There are a few issues with Windows 95/98. James Collins
