I have a few M3904 with a picture of a telephone with an X on it. The phones are not working. How can I solve this problem?
Thanks David

I would replace or repair them.

My question is how can I repair them, is it a software problem or is it an IC that should be replaced...

The phone is "dumb". If plugging in a second phone results in working location, then the first phone is broken. If all phones plugged into this location respond the same way, it's wiring or programming. What were the results of your doing this?

For the most part, I compare this forum to a car dealer's repair department. When we see a car with a defective radio, we make sure it is connected right and/or try a new radio, not take the radio apart. It has to do with what makes economic sense.

I don't know of a forum where the discussion of component testing, dissembling, desoldering, diagnosis, etc. takes place.

The answers you will get here might not be any better than your last post: thread798-1526368

Isnt the large X on the M3904 screen the indication you get when a firmware download goes wrong? Try downloading a known good version to the phone

There you go. That's a great answer.

For GHTROUT: the answers I get are fantastic. For the tread you mentioned I got excellent tips and now I'm actually repairing those missing columns displays on 39XX.

For MossEng: Yes it is the same indication. I will try to download another version.

Thanks
David

That's great too! Since you are one of the few that has gone ahead and started repair/replace of the LCD panel, you might consider posting a tip for others who may want to do the same... You know, for the "take the radio apart" kinda folks :)

For evrybody: On I got a tip about those who sell the heating seals that are to be replaced when there are missing columns. The price for a set of 2 heat seals is around $5. But this is the small money. You need a heating sealer machine. This costs around $5000. And the replacement procedure takes at least 20 minutes of delicate work for each phone. So if you do not have at least 200 sets to repair I wouldn't start the procedure.
