Hi, i currently have 2kserver installed with active directory and dns.

I'm using a router that's connected to my broadband modem, this router provides the DHCP for the network to take some of the load off my server, as well acts as NAT. I plan on getting a static IP for my broadband from my BSP, as it's only about $60/year. I looked in my routers manual and it allows me to open a 2-way connection from the modem and a computer, which i imagine i will be doing.

Now, i want this connection to be safe, really safe. The server that will be our also has some company files on it, so i think i need a firewall. I've looked at mskb and can find a few articles, but none are very concise or straightforward as to what and how to accomplish it.

If anyone has had any similar experience with this, or can offer some advise, i would greatly welcome it.

Thanks in advance! Scott Cybak

First of all you need to set your directory security up. Only allow Administrators to make changes in your directories on your harddrive. If you use the server as a webserver, you have to make the webservers directories accessable to the other users.

Disable ALL the services you DO NOT need.

update windows with the security updates, downloadable at
hope this helped... :)
