I've got WSUS running and all of my clients are reporting to it. However, on certain clients, it shows as updated "needed" however they have downloaded successfully to the client. For example: Update for Windows XP (KB908521) shows..in the Approval column "Install" and in the Status column "Needed".
This one particular client has been like this for a couple of days now.
Does anyone know why it's not showing as "Installed"?

Thanks

Have you verified that it is actually connecting to the server?

Go to that system and in the system32 drive under the root folder look for a windowsupdate.log file.

This should tell you what's going on.

Yes, I've verified the machines are connected. The problem seems to be, that the machines download the update successfully, but don't install them. It's waiting on the user to install. Also, I've noticed that once an update (that requires a re-boot) is installed, it shows 5 minute countdown message asking the user if they want to restart their computer "now" or "later". Is there a way to make it restart and not give the user the options?

thanks!

Yes in the group policy I believe there is a way to not give the user an option.

You could set it up how I have mine.

Through GPO you set it where they download but install at a specific time.

We close at 7pm so everyone should be out. I have them install at 3am and I make it a rule that everyone should log out or restart their systems when they leave.

That way the updates download during the day and install at night. If a user isn't logged in then it will install and restart all on it's own and you don't have to worry about anything.
