I've just installed WSUS on a server which also has SUS running parallel. I used the wsusutil to copy the content from the SUS folder to the WSUS content folder and it said 897 files were copied. However, all the updates that I just approved (257 of them) are all showing status of downloading and the home page says there's 16GB worth to download. One of them is XP SP2, and I've just searched for it and it exists under the WSUS Content folder under F6 (which is where I beleive it should be). So why is it downloading all these files? I need to deploy SP2 tonight using WSUS, and it won't have downloaded 16GB worth by then so I need to get this fixed up. Why won't it just accept that the files are there? Please, can anybody help

Yes, as long as the /content "contentshare" was included, i.e., wsusutil migratesus /content d:\WSUSupdates.

I know that this isn't necessarily a step, but did you reboot after running the migratesus command?

I don't remember doing a reboot myself, but I could be mistaken. I set mine up quite a while ago (about 3 months, and since have changed jobs/roles). I don't think a reboot would hurt anything....

After looking around a little bit, I found this:

Yes, you can update from SUS to WSUS - and migrate your local content and approvals from SUS.
Use the WSUSutil.exe tool that appears in the following location:
WSUSInstallationDrive:\Program Files\Update Services\Tools
and then use the following syntax:
wsusutil.exe migratesus /content PathToLocalSUSContent /approvals SUSServerName /log filename
For example:
wsusutil.exe migratesus /content c:\sus\content\cabs /approvals sus1 /log local_migration.log

Any help?

Sorry for not reply sooner, was off work for a few days. I finally figured out what was going on, I had set WSUS to download for all languages instead of just English. It was only when I looked at how much it had to download I realized that there had to be something not quiet right !!

Thanks for the posts anyway

Glad you figured it out. You are entitled to an "oops" once in a while, as long as you fix it....
