I'm trying to conigure dynamic routing for a 6500 switch. Anybody have a clue ?

What sort of dynamic routing? We need to know what you want to do before we can help you.

I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but it doesn't sound like you have much experience with routing. Is this a test network or are you going to be playing with dynamic routing on a live network?

6500 switch is a big boy---I imagine you plan to use EIGRP? I would.

Well FYI, Jnieberger, I have moderate experience with routing, ospf,igrp,eigrp,rip,etc...

I've found the answer to my own question. 6509's can work at layer two as well as three. You need what's called an MSFC or Multi-layered Switch Feature Card, which my core switches in my production network already have. This turns your L2 to L3. Look it up. Thanks anyway.

I see what you meant. I never knew one needed an extra deal for the 6509's...I thought they always did layer three, like the 3560 layer three switches. Thanks.

Burt

Nope early on thru the Sup 2's you had to order the separate msfc and pfc card to do the routing . I believe all new 6500's with 720's or 32's are layer2/3 with varying feature sets . If you want a plain layer 2 6500 you just turn off ip routing .
